Agricultural Quality Control Systems
Adams International Ltd.
is a world leader in
the production of Oriental Tobacco.
Adams teaches Isan farmers how to grow it,
buys it from them, blends it in the factory in Banphai,
and ships it to customers around the world.
Based on material from John DeHaven and Karl Kunz,
Andy Canfield designed, developed, released,
and now maintains the
Adams
Oriental Tobacco Quality Control System.
This system includes the following
major components:
-
FAC Farmer Accounting -
Based on past performance,
recommends farmers to sign up
to grow tobacco.
Accepts sign-ups,
and tracks the agricultural supplies
purchased on credit.
-
BUY Buying program -
Manages the actual buying
of bales from the farmer,
including recording grade and weight,
calculating price, printing
barcodes, deducting debts,
and printing buying slips.
-
REG Regrading program -
Records bale shipments arriving
at the warehouse,
records re-assignments of grades
and problems noticed.
Prints reports which are then e-mailed back
to the field department regarding
farmers with poor quality tobacco.
Also records which bales have been
blended in the factory.
-
PAK Packing program -
Records bales packed at the
factory, bale locations,
sales and shipments.
This is an Object-Oriented Program (OOP),
one hundred and thirty thousand lines of C++ code.
It compiles under Windows 98
and runs under Windows 98
or under Linux wine.
It uses the open-source Firebird SQL database
running either on the Windows 98 workstation
or on a Linux server.
We are now converting it to compile under Linux.
